Although in the past I’ve written about Bible prophecies concerning Israel and the Last Days, I suppose I’ve avoided specifically addressing those pertaining to the world and its politics, because so many ‘prophetic’ ministries just end up tickling the ears as they almost fall over each other in order to tell us what the Lord has revealed or told them. eg the most recent Jewish Feast days and Blood moons fiasco. [I’m resisting the temptation to say ‘I told you so!’]  I’m sure they will have more future dates ready in their spiritual pipe-lines … while all the time denying they are date-setting of course.

On the other hand, I am delighted to say that I am finding more and more genuine, Bible – based prophetic ministries, who, far from promoting their own speculations, special revelations and theories to us, truly concentrate on what the Bible has to say. As they watch what is happening to our world and to the Church, it is becoming clearer to all Lovers of the truth, that God’s prophetic word is unfolding before our eyes.

It struck me the other day, on reading the first few chapters of the book of Acts, that the fulfillment of prophecy – as it was happening, then and there for the Disciples – was a major part of their preaching the Gospel. They confronted the Jews, and later the Gentiles,  with the scripture prophecies concerning Jesus.  They told them that what they saw happening was indeed the fulfillment of what God had long ago revealed through His Prophets and now through His Beloved Son.

And so, I believe it is in our day – we can use what is currently happening as a major tool in our witness to unbelievers, as faith in the Bible, God’s infallible word, has all but disappeared in our post modern world and church!  At the least it should make them THINK! Some fifty years ago , in my own atheist days, atheism was still  a minority view and non- militant and  those who were agnostic in the matter hedged their bets and wouldn’t have mocked Jesus and the Gospel story ‘just in case’ !  People in general accepted the Bible and it was referred to as the ‘Holy’ Bible – or The Good Book.  Most parents, believers or otherwise, would send their kids to Sunday School because they knew it would be a good influence.

But now, it’s a whole different ball game and those countries that were once custodians of the Gospel and considered ‘christian’ [in as far as ethics and morals were concerned] are becoming the enemies of the cross and the Christian way of life. Of course we know that all this is paving the way for the Man of Sin’s appearance on the world stage. Which I believe the Apostle Paul said is the second sign we are to watch for.

This is speculation on my part I admit – but could this eventual total apostasy of the [mainly Gentile] church be the reason God transfers His attention to the nation of Israel and entrusts the Gospel back into their hands, just as it was at the Church’s beginning?  Romans 11:22-27 seems to indicate this and would explain why the Book of Revelation deals with Jewish believers and their testimony and martyrdom and [so I’ve been told] not the ‘Gentile’ Church. Not because the Church has already been Raptured but because the last Gentile has come in, and we will eventually [ on the Day of the Lord] all be raptured together, at the same time, with the dead in Christ resurrected first. Otherwise – as I’ve said before  – the Rapture theory splits the one true Gospel into two – one for the Jews and the other for the Gentiles.

So  – back to what is happening now, prophetically: everyone seems to agree that all the signs are pointing to the fact that we are in the ‘beginning of sorrows’ and the birth pangs of catastrophe for this world are coming closer together and are fairly taking our breath away. I’ve often said that I am no expert in any of these matters – I just read and believe my Bible and praise and thank the Lord for my salvation. But He has promised blessings to those who love the Truth [of His word] and I have really been blessed by what I read and the ministries that I’ve found I’m in harmony with.

To that end I would like to recommend the following ministries which, as well as warning about what is happening, also encourage us to take heart, comfort one another and look up to our Redeemer ….   But of course, at this present time, most of these support a Pre-Tribulation viewpoint which I do not share; but I have high hopes that as events unfold, they will soon be changing their minds!

Jan Markell –  http://www.oneplace.com    – Understanding the Times  – Radio broadcasts

Amir Tsarfati  – Behold Israel  – web site and videos

Jack Hibbs  – wwwreallifewithjackhibbs.org

These all cite the following Bible passages as being significant to what is currently taking place and what we’re heading for sooner or later  Psalm 83,[see note below]  Isaiah 17,  Zech 12,13,14  Ezek 37,38

Psalm 83: Amir Tsarfati thinks this was fulfilled in Israel’s 1967 six day war, but I’m not convinced. It doesn’t mention WAR specifically but indicates much conspiring and plotting by Israel’s enemies – which is certainly going on at the moment I think.

Please – as always – if you want to comment or put me right on anything do feel free  –  may the Lord bless and keep you, Maranatha!   Eileen

My childhood years were disrupted by absences from home, but a lot of it was spent growing up in East London. I therefore was aware of Jewish people as they seemed to my family, who didn’t really have a high opinion of them. It wasn’t outright prejudice , but I think there was a certain resentment at what they percieved to be ‘miserliness’ and an aim in life to make money. In other words I grew up with a ‘stereotype’ of them.

Along with that I was also aware that they were ‘God’s Chosen People’, although I hadn’t a clue what that meant. It seemed to be a source of bafflement to everyone why the Jews had been so persecuted and singled out for such hatred the world over. The war years were only recently over so a certain amount of pity existed too. Deuteronomy 28:37 speaking about Israel reads : ” And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb and a byword among all nations whither the Lord shall lead thee.”

One of the amazing things that happened when I became a Christian was that I found I had an immediate love for  Jewish people  –  my new-found Saviour was a Jew and their unrecognised Messiah !  They were indeed God’s people, chosen in history to be custodians of  His Word and Law, although I believe that custody is temporarily transferred to the Church via the Gospel, because of their failure to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah. I should point out here that of course the early church consisted of believing Jews, but as a nation they did reject Him. I do NOT believe that the Church has ‘replaced’ Israel in Bible prophecy.

God has not rejected Israel and His promises of future blessing for them still stands and will eventually culminate in their recognition of  ‘the One who they pierced’  and they will be in mourning for Him Zechariah 12:9-11 It is also recorded several times in the Old testament that God will bless those who are good to Israel but will not be happy with those who curse Israel [eg  Herr Hitler].

There can be no greater proof that the Bible is the Word of God than the fulfillment of the many  prophecies about Israel and the coming of  Jesus Christ into this world. The evidence is before our very eyes.

In discussions I’ve had with atheists etc the only ‘defense’ they offer is that the prophecies were written after the events ocurred !!  I’m no Bible ‘expert/scholar but those who are  , are well-versed in Bible history and can easily show that this is not the case. In any case – the one big proof  is Israel’s return to their own land in our own times.

It’s a fact of history that the Jewish people lost their Land and were scattered all over the world for nearly  2000 years.  Jesus’ own words in Luke 21:24 tell of this event : ” And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captive into all nations and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled”.

Deuteronomy 28: 64-66   ” And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone. And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart and failing of eyes and sorrow of mind: and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night and shalt have none assurance of thy life. “

But for all His pronouncements of judgement, God also promised to bring the Jews back to their own Land again and from those of my generation in 1948 and on to this day we are witnesses to this fact.  There is a Scripture    Isaiah 66:8 which says :  ” Who hath heard such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children”

The “Israeli Declaration of Independence” was announced on 14th may 1948 and newspapers of the time had headlines ‘ State Of Israel is Born’.

In the Old testament the Land was divided into two Kingdoms – Israel and Judah. In Isaiah 11:12  we read:   ” And he shall set up an ensign for the nations and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel and gather together the dispersed of Judah  from the four corners of the earth”    and in  Ezekiel 37:21-22  –  ” And say unto them, thus saith the Lord God, Behold I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side and bring them into their own land:  and I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all”      You can’t get more specific than that can you ?

To all intents and purposes the Jews should have been extinct by now seeing the efforts that have been made to destroy them. But God has His purposes and has preserved the nation of Israel as a testimony to His existence and the truth and reliability of His Word – the Bible.  See Isaiah 43:5-15 & 18-21.  It hasn’t been my intention here to speak about future things  concerning Israel and the Church eg the coming Great Tribulation/’Rapture’ of the Church etc.

This isn’t a great and comprehensive treatise on the subject of Israel but if you are someone who doesn’t acknowledge that the Bible is God’s Word, I hope you will reconsider and begin to look into these things yourself. There is a lot of historical info on Israel on Wikipedia if it interests you  and a Bible Concordance will help with looking up and locating relevant verses.  Happy hunting !           Please don’t hesitate to put me right if you spot mistakes.  God bless you.
